No, my new project is not about explosions. But I think I’ll have a blast.
I’ve decided to explore the sharing economy during one year as hands-on as possible. So instead of finding someone who’ll pay me to write a book, I’m going to finance the project by participating in the sharing economy. Or rather, that is the project. I’ll be sleeping on other people’s couches, fill my home with strangers, drive UberPOP, work from someone’s living room, rent out my bike, take care of people’s pets… I'll try anything - at least once. As long as it can be seen as part of the sharing economy, in a broad sense.
There are many interesting economic and technological aspects that I hope to get more insight in during this year. Such as, is it possible to make a living entirely in the sharing economy? I'll try and every month I'll report how much money I've earned. First of all I have to learn how to use a smartphone...
But what interests me the most is the social aspect. Is this a new way of meeting people? Why do you give someone you’ve never met a key to your home? How does the rating systems affect people? How will this year affect me? I’ll be sharing just about anything with strangers, and share the stories with you. Since this starts as a one-woman project and most of these things are new to me, please let me know what you like and what you think I should do differently. I'll probably make lots of mistakes (in English grammar not the least) but I guess that's part of the process too.
I believe that 2016 will be an exciting year for the sharing economy - and for me. And, it’s a leap year, so I’ll have one extra day to do this. It’ll be 366 days of sharing.
